Massive work of art by one of the highest regarded smiths of late Edo period . A signed and dated katana by Naokatsu in Edo mounts being offered for sale, date to 1855AD. Blade Info:

A stunning pieceof work from the Naokatsu, jo-jo ranked smith which is something very difficult for a shin-shinto smith toachieve. The nakago is signed \"Shoji Jiro Taro Fujiwara Naokatsu\", and also dated Ansei 2nd, which is 1855 AD. It has passed NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon which translates \"extraordinarily worthy of preservation\", it could very well be a Juyo Candidate. The work is truly incredible, and whatever I say in term s of the level of forging words won\'t do this piece justice. The polish is done by a very high ranking polisher, and no flaws are visible. The blades cutting edge measures a whopping 75.4cm / 29.7 inches, a thick and heavy piece with O-midare Hamon. Naokatsu didn\'t live to very old, died at the age of 54 years old which was 3 years after he made this piece. He would have been 51 years of age when he made it. He studied under the great Taikei Naotane, he also married Naotane\'s daughter. I have nothing negative to say about the blade, seriously a breathtaking piece.Blade is housed and stored in aquality made wood shirasaya

Koshirae:

The Koshirae is absolutely stunning, all dating from late Edo period including the red lacquered sheath. Typically the ones you see today are new but this is a trueantiquered saya. The fittings are all matching Soten school, made fromquality shakudo. Very grand and with plenty of gold accents.Even the Koshirae I highly recommend it.
