The wide 38 inch double edged broadsword blade with wide single fuller is 1 and 1/2 inches wide at forte. The blade engraved on one side with an imperial crown and large double headed imperial eagle and the engraved motto “Vivat Carolus VI Romischer Kaiser” translation “Long Live Charles VI Holy Roman Emperor (reigned 1711-1740). Steel schivona basket hilt. Leather covered waisted wood grip. Steel “cat’s head” pommel. The guard of very fine quality with incised decoration. This schivona was doubtless carried by one of Emperor Charles VI Dalmatian guards. Condition is fine, the blade with clear engraving and only minor surface rust. Grip is fine as is basket. Pommel is excellent. This is the first schiavona broadsword we have had the pleasure to offer with an undeniable imperial association. If you are looking to add a great schivona with real historical value to your collection here it is. 44 inches overall and homogenous. A totally fresh sword fom a private collection where it has rested for half a century.
