Perhaps one of the more interesting and authentic groups listed on . These items were originally listed on : 12/28/2004 and sold 1/7/2005. Attached images of some of the former seller's pictures and information about this officer. Also note; when his leather name tag was sewn on he was a LT. CDR. yet he lightly removed the LT. for personal reasons when advanced in rank.
Regarding the VF-74,The BE-DEVILERS spare patch, it is 100% mint and 100% original. It is huge, measuring 6.5" on the longest axis. Because of the heft of the piece, it appears to be Asian or Japanese-made. and quite early, likely of Korean War Vintage. It's back in muslin and stitched on felt. The colors are extremely vibrant and a fantastic design, one of the Great Ones! This is a spare/extra patch, unused from the pilot estate. As you can see, it is the same patch on his right sleeve. This one on sleeve is slightly soiled.
From the 1950's the Task Force 77 patch came from the same pilot's estate. It is the Be-Devilers VF-74 on the (Bon Homme Richard), likely the 1951-52 Pacific Korean War cruise, which included; Air Group 7 (VF 71, VF 72, VF 74 and VF 75) flying F4U Corsairs. planes.
The second and third patches on jacket are Jesters VF-173 and Rampagers VF-83. Images also show the inside stitching and condition of the lining, manufactures label, zipper/leather pull (CONMAR).
Have pictures of him at the Naval Academy (copies) inflight (lead plane) and on carrier deck.
There was a Saratoga Carrier award plaque for CDR C.W. Causey, underneath name it was inscribed: AUG. 1963 ~ MAR.1966. However I was not able to obtain it. All pictures (copies) will be included in this sale. The 6th image is from the original listing on . The picture of Wes. Causey on the carrier deck near his plane will also be included.
The Condition of this jacket size 42 is Excellent - Near Mint overall, see images. There appears to be no issues to, fur collar, lining, leather texture, zipper or the knitting on cuffs and waistband. However there is slight soiling to some of the patches sewn on the jacket sleeve's from pilot use.Free Priority Mail Postage to USA/APO addresses only.
Message me with any and all concerns. This Navy G-1 leather flight jacket is one of a kind with the right history, squadron patches and two additional mint patches in the listing. An authentic U.S. Military/Navy grouping only comes along once in awhile.
*Please Note* I will be taking down this listing effective February 15th. I have received a $1,000 deposit from a interested party to purchase the entire grouping. I stated to the buyer I would consider his offer on the understanding that I would allow him 14 days to make good on his offer. If he does not complete/honor this agreement I would only return $500 from his deposit. He understands and agrees to the terms. Therefore the Navy group will be sold or it will be relisted on the 2nd of March.
