This huge lot includes all original enlistment/ promotional/ dischargeand pay adjustment papers for one soldier: Herman W. Manchen who served in thisunit assigned to Ft. Bliss, TX. Hisgrandson created a fabulous 68-page biographical book (12 x 12) detailing hisgrandfather’s history. This book is included in this lot. The original paintingdepicted on the cover of the book is part of this collection, too. In this lot thereare numerous original photos that are framed in a museum quality frame andcreated that both sides of the photos are visible.

There is a very rare 8th Field Artillery banner thatis framed as shown in the first photo on the right page. The photo of the 8th Field Artillery was taken by the famous photographer of the time Marvin D. Boland; that rare photo is in the first photo. The uniform worn by this chronicled solder,Herman W. Manchen, is in excellent condition and includes the medal he earned,and the original corporal stripes that are attached to the shirt and the buttons, plushis hat. Manchen was an original member of the U.S. 8thFieldArtillery when it was formed in 1916 at Fort Bliss and was put under thecommand of newly promoted Colonel Peyton C. March, who within 2 years of thisassignment would become a Major General and the Army’s first Chief of Staff,leading the WW1 effort with General Pershing.”
