Original WWII U.S. M1 helmet manufactured by McCord Radiator Company, heat stamp 229A, dating to July 1942. This is a front seam, fixed bale helmet with original brass chinstrap loops—a textbook early war combat configuration.
The interior liner is dated Dec 17, 1965 and is fully intact with OD green webbing and leather sweatband. It fits securely inside the shell.
The exterior features one-of-a-kind hand-painted psychedelic protest artwork, highly characteristic of the 1960s peace movement. This includes vivid cloud motifs, peace wings, abstract red shapes, and more. Paint appears to be original vintage acrylic, possibly removable, but left untouched for preservation.
This helmet is a cross-era artifact—a wartime relic repurposed by the counterculture generation—making it highly desirable to collectors of:
• WWII militaria
• Vietnam-era protest memorabilia
• Folk and outsider art
• Psychedelic and hippy ephemera
Condition:
• Shell: Excellent WWII original, light edge wear
• Liner: Dated 1965, intact with original hardware
• Paint: Period, unrestored, and striking
• Chinstraps: Fixed bale loops with no chinstrap present
Truly a one-of-a-kind collectible—a powerful symbol of two of America’s most defining eras.
