Jack W. Shinn, at 96 yrs old, is the last living WWII Bomber Nose Artist. During the war he was briefly stationed in Pittsburg, PA where he met his wife Anna at the USO dance. After a very short romance they married just before he was sent with THE BOMBER BARONS, 13th bomb group on bombing night missions in the Philippines. Jack was a talented young artist and he drew the pin-up girls on the sides of the bombers. As pilot of his own B24 bomber his model was his bride. The name of the plane was chosen for the most popular song of the day \"Old Black Magic\". 72 years later they are still happily married. The dancing skeleton in the top hat was their logo. Jack drew it on the crew members jackets and his flight bag seen here. During the war Jack made money writing romantic love letters for the airmen and soldiers when he wasnt bombing the enemy in night raids. Many of the love letters in beautiful calligraphy sent home to sweet hearts and wives all over the states were actually written by Jack. After the war Jack had a long career in commercial art. He rubbed elbows with the other great artists of the time such as Norman Rockwell, Cobie Whitmore, and others as illustrators for print and commercial art was in it\'s hay day. He drew aircraft design for Curtis Wright. Later as his agency grew some of his accounts were names like Westinghouse, Melon Banks, and The United States Airforce.Back to the bag. This is the ONLY KNOWN WWII Nose artists Flight Bag to exsist. It has a very interesting story of it\'s own. After a Discovery Channel Story about Jack and the bag, Jack was approached by 2 men that posed as museum currators. Jack gave them the bag believing it was going to the Smithsonian. He never told the family, and one day it showed up on . A family member happened to see it and after a battle the bag was recovered. Fast forward 15 years.
