interesting 1775 SIEGE OF BOSTON REVOLUTIONARY WAR DOCUMENT JOSEPH TRUMBULL:
$395.00

For sale is a fascinating document from the opening phase of the Revolutionary War: the siege of Boston.
Glastonbury, Connecticut document (misspelled "Glaysenbury") is dated August (misspelled "Agust") 5 1775, and details barrels of pork procured by Joseph Trumbell ("Trumbull"), "Commissary General at Cambridge." Trumbull was the first Commissary General of the Continental Army. He was appointed some months before this by the Connecticut Assembly as Commissary General supplying Connecticut troops at the Siege of Boston. Having impressed George Washington in this role, on July 19th 1775 he was appointed Commissary of the newly-formed Continental Army, a job he held for only about two weeks when this document was made detailing his efforts to acquire pork for troops at Cambridge. It is signed by three men, Abijah Miller, John Miller and John Stevens. There was a John Stevens in Washington's Army around this time, who was famous later in life for constructing the first US steam locomotive and first steam-powered ferry, but I have no way of knowing if this is the same person. Condition: age wear, tear repaired by tape on back (see photos). Document measures approximately 10 x 8 inches, with an interesting watermark. Please see my other listings in the weeks ahead for more interesting Revolutionary War paper from the same collection.
