Who can tell me what this order / medal is called officially en who issued it? I've seen it being worn by veterans on pictures of the May 2008 Victory celebrations. Apparently it is for 90th anniversary of something established in 1918, the Red Army perhaps?

Памятный знак "За нашу Советскую Родину" Communist Party of the Russian Federation 90 years of Red Army Commemorative Medal. There are two different reverses to the medal apparently. Regards Eddie

Thanks! I'm amazed senior officers are allowed to wear this unofficial stuff.

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the heir-apparent to the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, has issued several commemorative medals. Insofar as I know, these are not awarded but, rather, sold to raise funds. These medals are NOT official, nor are they Umalatova medals.
It is worthy to note that, while United Russia holds the majority of seats in the Russian Duma, the CPRF comes in second with a little less than 1/4 of the total seats. Also, according to RT (formerly Russia Today), the CPRF has made new gains at more local levels recently. First, the CPRF logo as it appears on the documents and on the backs of their medals.

Now, the "90 Years of the Soviet Armed Forces" medal, released in 2008. Modeled on the Order of the Red Banner, it's a heavy alloy with hot enamel and standard aluminum suspension. Beginning with the document:
"We are Marching for the Victory of Communist Labour"
V.I. Ulyanov (Lenin)
03-19-2010, 02:39 PM
And the medal:
"We are Marching for the Victory of Communist Labour"
V.I. Ulyanov (Lenin)

There seem to be two variations of this, with and without text around the hammer and sickle on the reverse.
This one is without.
