The last coin (large one) is made of gold and is 1 kilogram heavy (almost 2 pounds!!!!)!!!!

How many thousands will it cost???

William,

I saw that too for both the 100 Rubles silver coin and the 10.000 Rubles gold coin, but is it possible that a coin weights 1 Kg?!...
Specially when the other two coins weight 31,1 gr and 7,78 gr !
Well, maybe only for collecting, as I don't see a person carrying such a heavy piece on the pockets and pay for a bread with these coins... Smile

Dolf,

Yes, mints arond the world have been producing coins that weigh 1kg in silver, gold and platinum. Actually, the Austrian mint has even recently struck a 32kg gold coin which, to this day, is the heaviest struck. The competition goes on Wink

Marc,

WOW! I know about the mints producing this kind of commemorative coins (the Bank of Portugal does the same from time to time) but I didn't know they could be so heavy!

Definetely not the coin to go get some bread at the bakers shop Big Grin

Dolf,

Officially, you can redeem them for their face value, but who would want to do it at a fraction of a cent in the dollar!

According to the description in Soviet's link:

"a silver proof -like coin of 100 Rubles denomination, fine metal content 1 kg, fineness 925/1000, diameter 100,0 mm, mintage up to 2000 pcs., catalogue number 5117-0027;"

" - a gold proof-like coin of 10 000 Rubles denomination, fine metal content 1 kg, fineness 999/1000, diameter 100,0 mm, mintage 500 pcs., catalogue number 5221-0008"

In addition, if you look at the last pic - on the bottom you'll see:

"Au 999 ---Rubles - 1 Kg"

That's quite a coin!

William

Mintage is limited to 500 pieces

I really love the design of the one at the far right, with all the flag going down, but at that price I'll have to pass on this one!!!
