I was not there, i had to rely on phone updates from Dave and Tod.

The SOS was a good time.

I got to meet Dave and get a copy of his book, as well as procure a hefty bag full of Soviet hats and what not (thanks again). Plus, Dave was nice enough to put some names to faces with regard to the Soviet dealers in attendance.

Unfortuantely, I didn't get to meet up with Clete -- the show is rather massive (hard to imagine until you get there), and I missed his stand when I was wandering around. Looks like we'll have to devise a better way to run into each other next year Wink

As far as the show went, it was VERY interesting. As previously mentioned, it was huge, but also the content was impressive -- there were more than a few super-high-end TR items, as well as some nice Soviet cloth. I saw about a half-dozen or more GPW-era general's uniforms, as well as some nice Soviet awards. But, the awards were not all that plentiful, and some of the prices were totally insane by any standard (and also, the prices were random as hell--like $37 or $41 as opposed to the usual rounder numbers you see).

I got about 1/2 Soviet stuff and 1/2 US, but no Soviet awards Sad

It was great to finally meet some of the folks from the forum, and to see some of the "old timers" as well! :thumbsup :thumbsup

There wasn't a big showing of Soviet awards, other than the "normal" dealers, but Digger Doug had some really fine stuff that sold Friday morning (or was it Thursday? It sure didn't sit long!) and PMD had some nice groups for sale as well. I picked up a nice Red Star and OGPW and a uniform from Webster & Nelson's book (the latter now for sale here on the forum) and a nice OGPW1 with document from Clete. I also did an impulse purchase of a really sweet presentation navy officer dagger miniature presented to a naval General Major in 1952. Overall, a pretty good show for me, I think.

Hello,
I had a great time at the SOS. I met a few fellow collectors and also saw my favorite dealers as well. If you like cloth then there was almost too much to see. Nack we will have to meet up at next year's show and Dave it was nice to meet you and some of the fellows you are friends with.

Attached are some pictures of some of the nicer tunics I saw. Since I already owe on other items for my collection I had to pass on buying anything at this show. Honestly I would rather have a root canal then have to pass on some of the uniforms/visors I saw there!! Thanks Clete

Good thing I didn't get to go...I might not have come back a married man. And way too old to start dating again (which also would cost money better spent on soviet cloth).

Was there lots of Soviet stuff?

Compared to US and TR stuff, nope. Id say the show was 5% USSR stuff.

I still think that 5% is a great outcome. :thumbsup

I saw about the same amount of Soviet stuff as I usually see at the SOS. A little weak on medals, as Dave mentioned, but for the most part it seems to always be the same percentage of Soviet items to buy. Thanks Clete
