Deputy Of The Supreme Soviet Of The Moldavian SSR Badge.

Late Moldavian/Moldova badges are not shown in Mekhonoshin, in part because, as he says, he is showing badges with Soviet symbols and he wasn’t sure if they continued. He was correct in deferring.

I will attempt to clarify in this string.

First, as shown in Mekhonoshin, is the last Supreme Soviet badge of Moldavia (the Moldavian SSR). On 25 February 1990 the Supreme Soviet of Moldavia declared sovereignty/its intention to quit the Union.

On 27 April 1990 the state symbols were changed. The flag was changed to Blue/Yellow/Red.

New badges were issued with the new state flag. (Note: These and subsequent badges all include the appropriate mint mark designating “made at the mint.”)

Contemporaneous with the declarations of sovereignty of Moldova, the Transdniester region declared its independences from Moldavia/Moldova, (September 2, 1990) and declared itself to be a presidential republic. (There was a war of independence/War of Transnistria during March to July of 1992.)
