"Possibly original fur but I can't tell for sure"??? As opposed to, say, an authentic reproduction? Ron is right. You really can't mistake mink for rabbit or wool. It is pretty distinctive.
I have a mink ushanka, purchased new in Moscow in 2002 at a very reputable, old -- and expensive -- haberdashery. It sure doesn't look much like that thing in the picture. It was a gift, and a darn nice one. You don't get much opportunity to wear them here in Oregon, though. Pity.
