Faked & Fantasy ribbon bars (Fruit salad)
#51
Rusty,

Without pretending being an expert :

* The ribbon of the Medal for the Capture of Koenigsberg should be positioned between the medals for the 40th Anniversary of the Victory and the Medal for Veterans of the Armed Forces.

* The Medal for Veterans of the Armed Forces is mounted upside down.

* The ribbon of this medal should be located before the ribbons of the Jubilee Medals for 60 and 70 years of the Armed Forces.

* Globally, very badly mounted ribbons. They really seem to have been combined for the occasion.

And moreover, the seller was proposing it without any comment... except that it woul be perfect on an uniform! Not a good sign for a 12 medals bar !

And, may be I missed something...
Even if all in all the content of the bar looks plausible, the way it is mounted is more than doubtful !

I do see what you are talking about...

You are looking at it from a book point of view though...

To me this bar looks like it was arranged by groupings...

War group, Jubilee group, Long service group.

Some veterans never followed regs, and this to me looks like a semi-logical placement.

I won't argue that this is put-together bar but it's plausible...

Still possible... But would a veteran position a ribbon upside down ?
Still possible... But no one would have told him ?
Still possible...

you'r both right gentlemen; I've 2-3 photos with huge errors on ribbons (when the veteran's wife wasn't in a good days, he wasn't going to sew himself his new or lost ribbons!!).
The definitive factor as it was said earlier is the trace of wear on cloth...

Gentlemen,

It's not veteran's, but a regulation military bar, that is most likely a fake. Where's the Victory Medal?

In reply to an earlier posting on the plastic covering on medal ribbons, I have a photo dated 1948 of a Leutenant-Colonel wearing a ribbon bar with a plastic type covering on. So it would appear that this practice also took place during the post-war years.

Vikingraider1,

During the war they even used plastic to protect ribbons on five-sided suspension. It's not unusual to see older narrow fruit salad bars covered with plastic or even with plastic ribbons.

I´m starting to get deceived about collecting ribbon bars....
There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

The Who, Won't get fooled again
