Although in the ranks of the South-Western Front when proposed for award, the Front had been destroyed by the German advance to Stalingrad in the summer, starting on the 28th June and the remaining units became reformed as the Stalingrad Front for the time of award. Strangely his card doesn't record the Medal "For The Defence Of Stalingrad" although he will have been there.
