I'm glad everyone had fun playing. The turnout wasn't very good. There were 5 total. I wish there had been more participation, but seeing the enjoyment everyone had and the many emails I received I'm glad we did it.

5 only ? Really astonishing... :idea

But, people who did not have the all right answers probably hesitated to post at the end... Rolleyes

Just hope the next contest will draw more Members...

Cheers.

And just a suggestion for next time: don't close the contest on a weekend, it happens that people go away. After posting the last question, give a few days before closing the contest so that all those that would like to participate can actually do it.

Just my 1.5 kopeck Big Grin

Many thanks to Brendan for the excellent prize. :thumbsup It is very much appreciated! (I have a sneaking suspicion that Art knows about your act of generosity Wink)

I too am a bit surprised that only 5 members participated. As I mentioned earlier, I think the scanvenger hunt theme was a pretty good way to spend some time on the forum. Especially since I read alot of threads I'd never browsed through before.

Well, let me add my thanks to Art and Brendan for setting it up. It was fun and hopefully next time others will enjoy taking part (especially since we five lucky guys walked away with a new piece for our collections Big Grin).

Everyone,

I'm thinking of a simple photo contest for members to participate in. Would be easy for all those with the capability to photograph and/or scan their awards. The contest would be open to everyone (moderators, new members, anyone). Of course, as always, the devil is always in the details :devil

1. The Grand Prize is $10 USD. Payable via PayPal (you would have to have a PayPal account to enter). Sorry freelance photojournalists Smile no pay-day here.

2. Image submission specifics. Limit of one photo per member. Image can be either 600 pixels high x 450 pixels wide, or vice-versa. Images even one pixel outside these dimensions will be disqualified. Images must not be larger than 50K (ahhh yes. the old 50K barrier..)

Your award photo should make the most use of the given space for your subject. Use the space to show detail, really maximize the space you are allowed.

You will required to submit what equipment you used to capture the image, what type of lighting (if applicable) and any other details that would help someone replicate your process. If you used image compression software, state this along with the amount of compression. Submissions not having this information would be disqualified.

How it would work is this. If there is interest in this, I would announce a start date and end date. You would email your entry to me along with the name you use on the forum. I would post your image in a special thread in the General Talk section with no information about who the photo was taken by except an identification number. After the image submission deadline passes, we will vote via poll for the best looking image.

So, what do you guys think?

I think that is an excellent idea!:thumbsup

How about more than one catagory? "Best image" can be subjective. An indiferent image of a unique item could beat out a great shot of a common znachok.
Then again there's something to be said for keeping it simple, not overthinking.

Does it have to be an award? Can there be a category for say "artistic display of items?"
