Are you saying you prefer dealing through Ebay??. I for one have been burnt a few times so would prefer to only deal with dealers who I can trust.

In my case I don't collect for investment, but it is good to know that if push came to shove you could recoup your money.

At the end of the day, if you are happy paying X for something, then that should be that.

It's great to see this post has generated the amount of discussion it has and that those of us who value the historical element of these valor orders remain true to our colors.
It's eminently clear the price spike would not have missed the Order of Glory 1st Class. What is amazing, however, is the 600% jump in asking price over that which I procured my Order of Glory 1st Class back in 1992.

Hi Medalklector,

No, I prefer dealers instead of eBay. Although there are some sellers on eBay that I trust, I prefer dealing with established online dealers. I've also been burned a few times on E.

Alexei is right. I no longer buy soviet orders and have moved on to researching what I have and their history. My purchase days have ended.:(

Nota Bene Wrote:DutchBoy,

I will have to disagree. The way I see it dealers are the first ones to loose - because of this crazy price hike I have lost a lot of valuable customers and collectors, interested in history and research, as oposed to investment potential. I would love to keep my prices down, but guess what I have to pay for those items.

Prices for Glory 1st class have been consistent with prices for other rarer awards.

Here are prices for some awards few years ago and what dealers are asking today, along with the increases:

Glory 1st class - was $1500 -> $5600 -> inseased less than 4X
Khmelnitsky 3rd - was $600 -> $3000-3500 -> increase 5-6X
Kutuzov 2nd - was $1200 -> $7000-8000 -> almost 5X increase
Suvorov 2nd - was $2500 -> $13000-15000 -> 5-6X increase

Actually - looking at the numbers now - Glory 1st appreciated even less than the rest of Soviet awards.

The price hikes can be a double edged sword. On one hand, when one goes to sell something, one can expect to make a profit, and on the other hand, when one wishes to add something new, the higher prices can be disheartening.

I started out collecting US Civil War artifacts, but the prices went beyond my price range. I still have my CW collection, but since then, I've moved to a small WWII collection, and now Soviet/East Bloc collection. When I first started out collecting Soviet awards, I picked up some common awards at really decent prices. I regret not purchasing some of the higher level awards at the prices that they were going for.

Another area of collecting that I've focused my time on is Soviet/Communist Bloc small arms. I recall purchasing my first Soviet SKS carbines for around $100.00 about 12 years ago. Now, to find the same Soviet SKS in my area will now cost around the $300.00 price range. I've certainly developed an appreciation for items in my collection, now that prices have gone through the roof.

Hello, guys! I'm new here, and I wonder what would a Full set of Glory with 1st class serial #1 in it, Slava 2nd class (border reverse all issued to Zaletov)cost today?

I'm with Rusty... I remember when that sold the first time about what, three years ago? The dealer was asking $20K for it at the time, but I heard through the rumor mill that it sold for much less. That was still when things were "cheap" though... I can only imagine that it has probably tripled or quadrupled in price since though.

Hi,

now here are two examples of my favourite soviet award - orders of glory, I have so far.
Someone please help me read the serials correctly because I'm thinking about researching them.
I'm not sure but I think the first one has 570356 and the second one 103694. Please corect me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!
