Halhingol Battle Commemorative Badge.
#81
I own several of these badges and find them to be amongst the most striking of Mongolian Badges. I cannot imagine this poor quality fake being accepted by anyone as real unless severely intoxicated in a bad part of town's bar, with very dim lighting..... that is terrible compared to the real ones. I have 2 "mirrors" and one "smooth". (Thanks Alexei for the smooth-back!)

I just received my second badge of Halhingol. The "neon" on the banner is a scanning effect. The horseman is silver plated and the screw is smaller than my other one measuring in at about 18.5mm. The badge looks great and I am posting it for your viewing pleasure.

Nice piece Danny! Congrats!

But still another flat-reverse! Didn't you got a deal for that mirror-reverse we talked about some time ago?

I wanted a piece with an original screwnut so I passed. I'm still looking for one though.

.... the way prices are shooting through the roof on these, I settled for a Mirror-Back w. perfect enamel but the wrong screw-nut. My smooth-back has a correct nut.

Here is another badge, a mirror-reverse. The badge is authentic but the screwnut doesn't appear to be. In fact, I have never seen any like that before. Could someone shed some light on the origins of the screwnut? Thanks

Danny,

Sorry buddy, no idea, never seen one of these before.
Anyway one thing is for sure, this is not the appropriate nut for this Badge.

Best,

Danny,

Here's a more detailed scan of an original screwnut from a "mirror back" variation.

How do we determine that a Halhingol was made in Leningrad?
Does anyone have an example in real silver?

Thanks!!!!!!! Rick

Rick,

I've never seen a silver variation. I got this information from the Borisov's book, who obviously had access to mints' records.
