Guys,

You don't see them very often, so I thought I'd share...

Badge of the Honored Member of State Security

Often called the "Badge of the Honorary Chekist" by dealers.

Shown by Battushig as D03a and D03b, but these two are in reality the same badge. The badge has a very thin gilt coating over the silver base, but this is often not preserved. Whether the badge is "gold" or "silver" is merely a matter of preservation.

An earlier document for this same badge, with nice photo showing it in wear.

And a later (the most recent?) style of document.

Hello everybody,

here we have a badge which is for sale now.

Does anybody know, if it is genuine, what it had been given for and how much I do have to expect to pay for it ?

Thank you,

Jens*

I believe it's genuine. As for the price, I have just sold here on the forum an identical piece in a slightly better condition for $1450.

Other than the gold plating and subtle differences in the ground under the rider, what are the differences in the two types of this badge? In Battushig it looks like the first type is slightly larger - based on proportions of screw nut to reverse size.

And here an early documented one nr 94

Awarded to Jamsran in July 1937. The document has certainly not been safe in a drawer throughout its life. The photo of the recipient is removed. It appears that the writing on the booklet has been restored (perhaps the original inscription faded and the bearer himself restored the writing). The writing on the doc says: "Jamsran is awarded the Honorary badge of Ministry of Internal Affairs for successful participation in the struggle to suppress the anti-revolutionaries". The doc has the original stamp of the ministry of Internal affairs and date and number of the decree
