Low activity among Soviet awards collectors

Dave,

I agree with you!

I bught two groups from you and one was sold for exactly what I paid for from you.
The second group, I admit to making a killing on! I doubled my money but in the end it's still sitting in my collection.

When I bought these groups, I thought I will get into collecting groups but it turns out that I have no interest in them. I still collect single medals and orders and I get more joy out of them hanging on my wall.

These last few months I have bough some interesting and expensive items and wanted to sell some of my groups since my collecting style is not in groups to offset the costs.

A few years back I bought a Medal of Ushakov group with 2 Red Stars and 2 Military Merit medals + OGPW and commem medals with all books for the diver and his wife just for the Ushakov medal!
The group is fantastic and includes his divers log book and all I needed was the Ushakov medal since it was authentic!

I've also lost money, such is the hobby!

I know you sold some stuff a while back that I'm sure you'd love to have back. At the same time, no one could have predicted that Kutuzov 3 would be $7,500 and a group with it would sell over $10,000!!! and you had a hard time selling your group for a few grand!!!

Hello Dave

I agree with your remark below. I sold an order to a fellow collector here, only to be told it was not what he expected and wasn't worth what he paid for it. That I was obviously not very knowledgable about what I was selling. I actually felt bad about the whole deal.

But one month later I see it on a dealers site for twice what he paid for it, with remarks about how it is a wonderful order. Apparently it wasn't such a bad deal after all.

Dave Wrote:This rise in prices has also brought out the worst in a lot of collectors and dealers. I, for one, have gotten the "raw end of the deal" when a dealer has raised prices dramatically on something I was buying and seen items that I sold to trusted individuals who complained about the high price - only to be sold for double the money the next month. Yeah... no thanks on that!

Anyway, just my two cents...

I hope our little community doesn't tear itself apart with these types of deals. It all sounds a bit cloak and dagger....
