M-35 prosecutor's uniform?
#1
Hi everyone,

I'm new to these forums, but have a small - if satisfying - collection in medals and uniforms. One of the latter came into my possession about a year ago - for an incredibly low price. Indeed, I don't think the seller knew exactly what he was selling. Anyway, here it is - I was hoping that someone would be able to provide anymore information as to the uniform and its possible value. I'm currently studying law, so if this indeed is a lawyer's uniform, it will make a very suitable centrepiece to the collection. If not - I'll still have my full parade uniform of a Colonel of Armoured Troops!

The uniform appears to be old - its is slightly moth-holed in places and contains, as far as I can tell, no man-made fibres at all. The lining is in a slightly lighter olive colour - but there are no markings or stamps. There a small number of small cuts in the tunic, one on the front just below the collar tabs having been sewn up and another on the lining. The buttons are metal and the sleeve stars are constructed from a metallic thread.

There is also a small, blue-fronted ID book in one of the pockets (complete with a seperate photograph of what appears to be a parade!) but my scanner is not working at the moment. The book contains various stamps and I believe it to be dated 1947 (the date 1923 is found as well, but not understanding Russian, I assume this be be perhaps the date in which the owner joined the party/armed forces).

Many thanks in advance for your help
Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. I am moderator in this section.

The tunic you posted is a copy of an M1940 generals tunic, with some odd added insignia, made in Ukraine these days. These tunics are sold on a very large auction site for about $50; sometimes IDd as repro, sometimes not.

The stars on the collar tabs are modern senior officer stars for shoulder boards. The justice insignia is just sort of there; probably off a police uniform. My guess is the guy got the repro in Kiev and it needed insignia so he added it.

Many thanks for your help,

I got this off of the auction site in question - paid £10 (listed under 'unknown uniform), so even as a fake i suppose i got it cheap.

Saying that though, the fabric itself is most certainly vintage, down to the smell, mothing and some staining on the lining as well as signs of wear. IS there any possibility that the tunic itself is an original period piece?

Regards
Matt

Its possible that the tunic is period, though i would still bet against it. But, they could have found an old officer-em tunic with no insignia and added the repro collar, cuff insignia and the repro wound stripes.
