Parade Admiral uniform: question
#11
Jeffrey Meffert Wrote:"black thread rays" on this are known as the Nakimov star. Navy line got these while naval air generals and other non-line generals got conventional general stars and epaulets.

Okay, remember I'm not a "cloth guy" (as Doug calls 'em) per se, so forgive me if I don't understand the use of the words "line" and "non-line." I take it that the "Nakimov star" was a step above the "conventional general stars."

My question is two fold: what are line generals and what separates them from conventional generals (other than the threads - pun intended ;))? The answer to the first part may well answer the second.

sea-going vs. land lubbers. They both get the anchor and soviet crest on the buttons. Naval line admiral m45 parade and naval air general m43 kitel. Submarines, surface warships and their commanders would be considered line. Air support, naval infantry, naval artillery, medical etc. would be not be "line".
