Clete,

I am sorry, but this picture is a bit out of focus.

I need to know why 1985 OPWs are not researchable. They have serial numbers and come with award books. What is the reason, with the information, that they are not to be researched?

How are they unresearchable--you cant take the serial # and find out who it was awarded to, or if you look up the # it doesn't give awarding details?

Nack,
It makes one wonder why they would add serial numbers and award books?:banghead

Nack, Doc,

I am not 100% sure, but it seems to me that, because they were issued as a sort of "Jubilee Order" to participants of the GPW, there was no reason to record much details other than the S/N.

Marc & Nack,
Thanks for the information. It does make me wonder why they even bothered to engrave serial numbers?

Interesting point--similarly, why bother to give out both classes. Why not give everyone a OGPW 1st (or 2nd)?
Reply
There was some clear-cut criteria as to who got the 1st and who got the 2nd class.

1st Class OPWs were awarded to HSUs, ORB medal of valor and Medal for combat service medals. There may be one or two others to receive the 1st class. The rest received the 2nd Class.
