Were the St. George orders (more or less) only for enlisted men like the OG?

Nack,
Strictly speaking, they are called Insignia of Distinction of the Military Order of St. George for Enlisted Men for Bravery. The Order of St. George itself was reserved for officers only. Alexei

A-ha. So if the ODMs on that general were for enlisted folk, I could see him getting away with it on the theory of look how great the socialist paradise is -- a lowly enlisted man from the Tsarist era was able to rise to the rank of general in the wonderful soviet era.

Am In sensing a pattern here? Exceptions (grumbling exceptions?) to policy were made for the CROSS of St. George (a proletarian-enough gallantry award) but not for any other Tsarist baubles? Was this part of the 1943 re-Tsarification of uniforms, the new commanders' orders named after Tsarist heroes, etc.? A fascinating topic (and some lovely - even bizarre - pictures). Thanks.

My latest foray into collecting has proved to be very enjoyable.
I count 7 Red Stars! Plus 2 T1 CSMs, 3 Guards Badges, two downright glares and one puzzled expression. These photos are just way cool and will make a great addition to my collection of paper items. Thanks Brendan!
