Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
You are too kind. Many thanks for your assistance. I never retired from this hobby; I just took a very long break. :)

If anyone can assist me with locating awards or items that belonged to Chelnokov, please PM me.

Hi there, it's nice to come back to this forum after several years' absence. I remember this forum back when it first started around 10 years ago and it's amazing to see how far it as gotten.

So here I am, trying to resurrect an old topic from 2007. I am trying to research and obtain as much information about twice hero of the USSR N. V. Chelnokov as possible.

For starters, I would like to assemble a complete list of the awards he was given. Judging by the photos I have (attached to this topic), I see the following:

(1) Hero of the USSR (No. 653)
(2) Hero of the USSR, 2nd Award (No. 24)
(3) Order of Lenin (No. 7276)
(4) Order of Lenin (No. 8850)
(5) Order of Lenin (No. 276476)
(6) Order of the Red Banner (No. 8853)
(7) Order of the Red Banner, 2nd Award (No. 4983)
(8) Order of the Red Banner, 3rd Award (No. 896)
(9) Order of the Red Banner, 4th Award (No. 1354)
(10) Order of Ushakov 2nd Class (No. 429)
(11) Order of the Red Star (No. 1019416)
(12) Order of the Badge of Honor (No. 2924)
(13) Medal for the 100th Anniversary of Lenin's Birth
(14) Medal for the Defense of Leningrad
(15) Medal for the Defense of the Caucasus
(16) Medal for the Victory Over Germany
(17) Medal for the 20th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War
(18) Medal for 30 Years of the Soviet Army and Navy
(19) Medal for 50 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR
(20) Medal for the Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Leningrad
(21) Badge for the 25th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

I also see these but cannot properly identify them:
(1) Academy Badge(s) - likely from one (or more) of the following:
- Leningrad Military-Theoretical School of Pilots ("Ленинградская военно-теоретическая школа лётчиков")
- Sevastopol School of Naval Pilots ("Севастопольская школа морских лётчиков")
- Genshtab Military Academy ("Военная академия Генштаба")
(2) Foreign Medal/Cross

And one more final photo for now.

So now, I am wondering if there's any way of knowing the serial numbers of the orders (items 3-12 above)? Any help would be appreciated for sure.

Notice that in the early photos, two Orders of Lenin, the Badge of Honor, two Orders of the Red Banner, as well the first Hero medal are all early types (screwbacks for the orders, and early "small" suspension Hero medal).

I also know that Chelnokov was honored in at least three landmarks/monuments:
- Moscow Golovinskoe Cemetery
- St. Petersburg Alley of Heroes at the Moscow Victory Park
- Street named in his honor in Irkutsk

Last but not least, I know he was also awarded a naval officer's dagger dated 1949, No. 0777.

According to this link, his Order of Ushakov 2nd Class was No. 429.

The foreign cross seems to be Polish Cross of the Brave. If it is, it's strange that he didn't get V&F medal as well

You should have his record card researched in the Ministry of Defense archive. It costs only about $20 and the card contains a list of all of his awards, including serial numbers. If you are seriously interested in getting all the information on him that exists, there are many more archival documents that might interest you. Let me know if you need more information.

Hello Mahdi! Nice to see you back again!

Have you tried http://podvignaroda.ru/ and http://obd-memorial.ru/. You probably won't get any hit on obd-memorial (or maybe burial place and date of death or if he got arrested, released, etc... sometime they have draft notice as well).

Good luck in your research.

Thank you, Al-muell, for your help with the Polish medal identification. It certainly looks right to me.

Auke, I would be very interested in getting more information, and $20 is definitely not much to get all this information - are you able to point me in the right direction to obtain such research?

matteti, it's also nice to see you again after a few years! I checked both sites you suggested, thanks for that. I was unable to get any positive hits --- just people with similar names. Oh well!

Thanks to everyone, once again.

Maybe the picture isn't impressive, but there's one feathure visible on this photograph which makes it interesting - he has cavalry emblem on his board. The date on the back says 12.11.1954. I have always wandered wether theMVD continuedto use that emblems after MoD cavalry units were disbanded.
It's worth to note that the stamp says MVD military unit 2357. Perhaps it was entirely cavalry unit?

A realy weird stuff this time: a Lithuanian national (I belive) Alfonsas Yozovich Milevichius.
On the first pic (undated), he is wearing M55 AF officer's parade uniform. But the stamp on the back says: 2nd Naval Political school...
Than there's another pic of him (dated 10.12.1964)And he's wearing a Ground Forces M58 walking-out uniform of... signal corps!
I belive he was a political officer, but what a career: an AF Lt. in Naval Political school and then a GF Sr. Lt. in signals unit (stamp gives only the unit number:40213). Apart from that, if not for the name, I would never have said that it's the same guy.
