It is a hat badge for officer/NCO daily service cap, looks like a 1970-1991s issue.

I would add, that only officers and extended-service NCOs of ground forces wore this.

Never heard of them being copied - they are common and cheap, even earlier brass versions aren't much more expensive.

As mentioned, these are very common, especially the ones in aluminum. The price you mention is definitely right for those.
