During the fighting in February and March 1943 near the village of Poliki, comrade Yakimenko opened fire at enemy machine-gun positions with a German gun that was captured on the battlefield using direct lay from a distance of 500 meters, which enabled our infantry to advance forward. When the enemy launched a counterattack, supported by tanks, near the village of Bore, comrade Yakimenko led the firing of two 76 mm guns, as a result of which two enemy medium tanks were put out of action and up to a platoon of enemy infantry was killed.

On July 12, 1943, while breaking through the foremost enemy defense lines near the village of Seraya, comrade Yakimenko led the battalion’s artillery fire. Together with their artillery pieces the gun crews advanced with the infantry’s combat formations and from open positions opened fire at enemy machine-gun positions using direct lay. On July 18, 1943, during the offensive toward the village of Kudryavets, his platoon destroyed 1 enemy machine-gun position and 2 bunkers, and up to a platoon of enemy infantry was scattered and partially killed.
