Researching Red Army/Navy Units
Any detailed OOB for the 8th Guards Army for the Berlin Battle someone??

If you have it, please PM me and I will send you my email address to send it to,

I am planning to eventually buy some good books on Soviet OOB, but I am not sure where to start.. I saw that Craig Crofoot has some that look interesting and Charles C. Sharp also published 12 volumes.

Air Defense forces (like other combat support - engineer, signal, etc.) are almost always split up and thus wouldn't be depicted on a map. For example a brigade of Air Defense forces may support a corps with a battalion going to each division, further more a company "sliced" down to each rifle brigade or regiment.

Since maps usually don't depict units below rifle regiment level, you're probably not going to find your specific air defense unit's "X marks the spot."

If you're serious about researching, the books are a must.

After translating, I usually charge $5 for unit research since I have to thumb through my books, make a photocopy, etc. and that's time I don't have for funner stuff.

If it's just advice you want, no problem. That takes a lot less time than the above.

I am looking for any info (or pics!) of the 64th Guards Ind. Tank Brigade...I know they used Shermans and met up with the 82nd Airborne (US) in 1945...any other info would be great!

Taz,

You are not referring to the same brigade. The 64th Tank Brigade was disbanded on 22 Dec 1942 (it was split in the 251st and 261st Tank Regiment). The 64th Guards Tank Brigade was formed on 23 Oct 1943 out of the 49th Tank Brigade. The full name of the 64th Guards Tank Brigade was "64th Guards Tank "Chernovitsko-Berlinskaya" Order of Lenin Red Banner Order of Suvorov Brigade".
