One of the earliest set of patches I bought when I began collecting were a set of five patches, one Soviet crest and four letters, CCCP, in green felt. The seller told me these came from the estate of Lakov Zheleznyak, who won the gold medal in Running Target at the 1972 Munich games. He said, because Lakov was Jewish, they pulled him from the games after the massacre. If any of this is true I don't know, I just remember what the seller told me. Somewhere in my files I have the exact info.
Whatever the case, I had never seen another Crest patch like the one I bought until in December, when one showed up on Ebay. It just arrived and I photographed it next to my first version. My original is on the left in both photos.
If anyone can shed light on these patches, I'm all ears.
