A book bought some years ago, probably made by local youth in just one copy in 1990.
It contains the short memoires of the residents of the village of Zinkov (or Zinkiv in Ukrainian) in Ukraine who took part in the Great Patriotic War.
There are also photographs of some of the veterans.
What's interesting is that it was written in Ukrainian even though they couldn't find a typewriter with Ukrainian alphabet, so it's written on Russian one, with use of "!" "''" and other to substitute for the the missing letters.
In general - many of the memoires are rather sketchy - Like: "I was born on... I wads called for the service on... and returned home in... Now I am retired".
But there are also some more interesting - like descriptionof the crossing of a desert in Mongolia or about life in a radiooperator's school - were soldiers were begging to be sent to the frontline to avoid death of starvation.
Even though some are "I have to thank our Party for it'sbrilliant leadership of our Army and Country", some are more honest, and one of the oficers openly criticises the postwar rulers of the Soviet Union.
As the time allows, I will probably be posting some of them translated.
