This is the third one like this I've seen in the past 6 months. The other two were nickle plated. From the eBay posting:
"За Отличную Стрельбу, НКВД СССР 1940
For Outstanding Shooting, NKVD USSR 1940
Stalin Police Trial Medal
Rare"
Then the seller makes his paradoxical disclaimer:
"Great condition - please see high resolution pictures for more details (feel free to download). Approx 33 mm in diameter, weight is 13 gr., does not stick to magnet (copper?). I am not an expert in medals so authenticity of this item is not guaranteed - you always have 7 days unconditional money back guarantee with ALL items I sell."
Read carefully: authenticity is not guaranteed, but in the very next sentence he says you have a 7-day money back guarantee - which you can't use here because he just said he can't guarantee the authenticity. Verbal gymnastics.
And if you will, have a look at the ring first. Then, you might recognize the shooter (XX RKKA reverse), the belt buckle star and H&S and then the obligatory "it must be real" NKVD egg on the other side. It is a slap-together job of different dies that at first looks nice, but then you realize its not real, and finally, you look at the MSRP of $168.:laff:yow
The first time I saw one of these, the seller in Poland wanted 195 Euros AND you had to pick it up in person in Jelena Gora. :nono (Probably so he could mug you and get your wallet, too!)
