This only occured among Senior Sergeants, all other ranks kept their uniforms with four buttons. The Komsomol badge is not unusual either, I have photos or Air Defence troops with rocket shaped badges which have been fashioned by themselves. The hook and eye fastener at the bottom of the tunic is interesting, not seen one of them before, nor have I seen the red felt for used (although this material is very common, I have several DEMBEL photo albums which have been covered with this fabric and metal letters stuck on the top). Where they got this fabric from I do not know but it seems to have been widely available (in both red and green) to demobilising troops.
I would say that this is a typcial VDV NCO DEMBEL uniform.
How much did you pay for it?
So it's rather typical than unusual? :)
I gave 99pln, that's about 25$. For me it's a good, but reather high price.
About this fabric - I remember from "good old times" that in most of the schools message boards were covered with such material (the red one), so perhaps it was common in the USSR as well.
I am not sure if this badge was made by the soldier himself - there was a thread about similar badge here and also I have seen one for sale saeparately (without komsomolpin in center). Weren't they something like the modern russian dembel badges?
