Here is one from Gorky Park in 1999. It doesn't show in this scan but the bearded sailor has a Nachimov medal behind the accordion.

May 9th is for sure the veterans day.

Greetings to all on this greatest of days.

By the way, this is also Europe day. The pheonix rising from the ashes. Despite its problems the EU has been an ncredible success in welding former enemies who fough every generation into staunch allies. It continues to grow and expand.

As for Kabanchik's quote.... That is my favourite Russian quote ever! I feel it is our sacred duty as collectors to honour that. WE must keep the memory of those who fell, and those who lived, and what they did, alive.

As published today by Itar-Tass, Victory Day continues to be the most important and the best loved holiday for Russians.

Results of public opinion polls :

Between 74 and 83 per cent, according to different public opinion polls - celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of Nazism.
46 per cent regard the V-Day as "a very important landmark in the history of this country."
About one third of the polled have special feelings for the holiday, because they remember the war times and cherish the memory of their relatives, who died during the war.
For 12 per cent of Russians the V-Day is important, because on that day they pay tribute of respect to the memory of the dead and express gratitude to the war veterans."

At the same time, some changes : 20 per cent of the polled, mostly young people, regard it simply as another day-off.

HereLs a reminder in behalf of all artillery Red Army men who fought on the tanks who defeated the Facsists that so much harm have caused to humanity(my country isnLt the exception).
We must think and reflect...The USSR saved the world.
If Red Army just would have appeared to defend us on 1973...(Sigh)

MARSH SOVIETSKIKH TANKISTOV

Bronya kripka, i tanki nashi brystry,
I nashi lyudi muzhestva palny:
V stroyu stoyat sovietskie tankisti-
Svayei velikoj rodiny syny.

Pripiev:
Grimya agniom, sverkaya bleskam stali
Pojdut machiny v yarostnyj pakhoi,
Kagda has v boj poshliet tovarisch Stalin
I Voroshilov v voj nas pabidiot!

Zabodov trud i trud kolkhoznykh pashen
My saschititm, stranu svayu khranya,
Udarnoj siloj orudijnykh bashen
I bystrotoj, i natiskom agnya.

Pripiev

Pust´ pomnit vrag, ukryvshijsya v zasade
My na cheku, my za vragom slidim.
Chuzhoj zemli my nie khotim ni pyadi,
No i svaiej vershka nie atdadim.

Pripiev

A esli k nam polezet vrag matioryj,
On budet bit povsyudu i vizde!
Tagda hazhmut voditeli starteny
I pa lesam, pa sopkam, pa valie....

Pripiev x2
There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

The Who, Won't get fooled again

And as a German I have to celebrate this day too. Let us think about all soldiers and civilians of all nations who died in that horrible and senseless war.
