Wound Stripes - willie777 - 12-07-2007 Hey guys, I have a question... OK, So tonight, I was on flickr, looking for victory parade pics, and I see this picture of a veteran, a Polkovnik of artillery, with his possibly grandson or granddaughter. Now, the uniform of him is pretty typical of a vet, but It has a wound stripe bar. two yellows, one red, and two blues... AFAIK, werent there only yellow and red stripes? Is there something that I'm not aware of here? Wound Stripes - DougD - 12-07-2007 Interesting! Good eye! I too have never seen blue; amputations? A good new topic! DougD Moderator Wound Stripes - Nota Bene - 12-07-2007 I believe those are unoficial stripes for contusions, worn only by WWII vets. Alexei Wound Stripes - desantnik - 12-07-2007 I too have never seen blue ones. Wound Stripes - Dave - 12-07-2007 I've never heard of seen blue ones either. Perhaps frostbite???? :p:D Dave Wound Stripes - willie777 - 12-17-2007 Nota Bene Wrote:I believe those are unoficial stripes for contusions, worn only by WWII vets. Strange... According to my 88/89 reg books (yes, i finally have it, not only the posters), such stripes are official and shown on page 220. There are no blue stripes, only red and yellow. They are only shown for up to 3 wounds. Frostbite is technically a wound (at least by german regulations) so maybe blue is for illness? Wound Stripes - DougD - 12-17-2007 willie, i do not think Alexei was saying ALL wound stripes were unofficial, just the blue ones. DougD Wound Stripes - Lapa - 12-17-2007 DougD Wrote:willie, As per regulations, wound stripes have an official status since WWII, but only the red and the yellow are official; even some top level personal wore them (see Eremenko's Parade-Walkout marshal's uniform). The blue one is unofficial (eg does not appear in any regulation), and IMHO, is for contusions received. Marc Wound Stripes - willie777 - 12-18-2007 Define contusion? TO me contusion is a bruise, which I seem to get a lot... If contusion is in fact a bruise, a probably qualify to wear enough of blue stripes to cover my right chest down to my ankles. The Russian word is "kontuziya", but in English would be like concussion or shell-shock. |
