looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - matteti - 10-23-2009 Hi dear collectors, I would like to purchase a soviet/cossack sabre, and I have seen some examples on E! recently. However, I have zero knowledge in the area of blades and I don't want to buy a fake item or realize later that I really got played on the price. Anybody can recommend a reputable seller. I wish DougD had some for sell directly! Thanks in advance for your comments/recommendations :thumbsup looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - pirochki - 12-31-2009 Hi Matteti, i am new here, i collect russian schaschka and have several one, i can say that there is no seriously seller of russian schaschka on Ebay. A lot of chinese replika, a lot of german replika(dont buy a 1934 one, it`s 90% sure that it`s a replika) and the one sell by georgian are too expensive and in poor condition. If you want to buy one, first collect a lot of information about stamps, type of head, type of blade, etc... after this you will be able to recognize replika and true one. looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - matteti - 12-31-2009 Thanks for your comments pirochki. Actually, I already located and committed to buy one from a very kind and reputed expert member of this forum. I just have to pay for it now. :) It is a 1937 NKVD shashka with matching scabbard in very good shape. As soon as I receive it, I will post picture of it. other side of the blade "15 KG" and markings on scabbard... looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - pirochki - 01-25-2010 Yeah! he looks fine,:thumbsup i didnt know this stamp: the ''1 with the head down".I have a ziz 37 and a ziz38. Hello Pirochki! Yes, a little K with a star (*) as well I would like if you could also share pics of your two shashka for comparison of details/variations. Thanks :thumbsup looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - EricFG - 01-26-2010 Ooo....nice!!!! That is so cool, I wish I could get one. Can I ask what the price range for these might be? Just a ballpark.... looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - matteti - 01-26-2010 Hello, I'm far from an expert, but I can share some information I learned. Price depends a lot on the condition and the type. There are two types, one for NKVD cavalry officer and one for regular Soviet army officer. The fist one (like mine) is more silverish in color and the later one is more golden. The NKVD type is rarer, thus more expensive. I don't know by how much though. I've seen some NKVD shahskas in the $1300-2000 range depending on condition. looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - pirochki - 01-28-2010 I will post some pictures of mine (37 and 38). And i will post some pictures of the other, i will try to post some pictures for every one of them. looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Nota Bene - 02-06-2010 matteti Wrote:Hello, Interesting! Where does this information come from? All my information about swords comes from Kulinsky, and his books are far from complete. Alexei looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Bob - 02-07-2010 What a beauty! Definately now on my "want for Xmas" list. Still regretting not having bought one of these with a Mongolian Khalkhin Gol badge impressed in it when offered to me a few years ago...:thumbsdown |
