Translation Help - Al-muell - 09-27-2013 Thanks! I have encountered another shortcut: SPAM e.g. "the out-of-order vehicles were sent to SPAMs of the Front" Doesn't seem to have something to do with repair. Mobile junkyards? Another: OSG He only says things like "we make contact with automobile directorate and OSG of the Front" They were responsible for vehicles, so it is probably some military institution related to that. Translation Help - CtahhR - 09-27-2013 SPAM - сборный пункт аварийных машин (assembly point for emergency vehicles) OSG - отдел снабжения горючим (department of fuel supply) I also forgot Tommy's "AE" which is авиационная эскадрилья (Aviation Squadron). Translation Help - Al-muell - 09-27-2013 Thanks again! But wouldn't "аварийных машин " be more like "broken" or damaged "vehicles"? I thinkthat "avariynyi" means both the one used in case of emergency and the one that has suffered from "avariya". Since it's the place where they would send out-of order-vehicles... I also have another two shortcuts: OARM - from context I can guess that RM would stay for "Remontu Mashin", but no idea what OA would stand for. KPP - "[officers] would gather cargo vehicles in columns and formed columns would be taken to the KPP of the border units where..." One "P" may also be sor "punkt", but no idea about the other two letters. Translation Help - CtahhR - 09-27-2013 It could be something like recovery vehicles or vehicles to be recovered. OARM - окружная авторемонтная мастерская. KPP - контрольно-пропускной пункт. Translation Help - Auke - 09-27-2013 СПАМ = disabled vehicle collection point ОАРМ = vehicle repair shop [of a certain district] (although I have also seen the О standing for Оренбургская or отдельная) КПП = examining post Translation Help - Al-muell - 09-28-2013 Next portion: UMSD - I guess it's Motostrelkovaya Divizija, but what does the "U" stand for? context: "Our group's task was to show help and improve combat readiness of the motor pools of the motor rifles regiments of the USMD" This was an MVD Interior Troops unit. Prozhektor - OK, it's a searchlight, but does it has a different meaning? He says about prozhektor points with their beams overlaping from Koenigsberg to Ventspils. KTG - seems to be some rating of a vehicle conditio - 'KTG exceeded 0,90', when reffering effects of the control of the automobile units. Ship types: 1. "SK" (here: 'SK "Korshun"') 2. 'Okhotnik' ('refuelling of a large okhotnik required 12-18tonns of diesel fuel. Small okhotniki needed their gasoline engines changed to diesel engines...') I know it's basicly 'hunter' or in the air force - 'interceptor', but in the Navy? Translation Help - Auke - 09-28-2013 U - Could it be a 4? U is usually upravleniye, but that wouldn't make much sense. Prozhektor - no, just a searchlight SK (storozhevoi kater) - patrol boat Okhotnik - I would call it just a hunter. Think about submarine hunters or hunter-killer submarines. No idea about KTG. Translation Help - Al-muell - 09-29-2013 Thanks! I also thought that a division numer should have been here, but the text was written on a typewriter and it's "UMSD" is typed in capital letters, so I don't think he hit "U" accidentally instead of "7" or "8".
