Fake Orders of the Red Star - rocketscientist - 01-23-2014 Hello! Opinion on the engraving of this serial number? Looks very ugly. If it was doctored, then I wonder whether the screwpost is also a recent add-on... Thanks for your comments. ciao Sergio Fake Orders of the Red Star - marsino - 01-23-2014 rocketscientist Wrote:Hello! I am definitely getting old... I completely erased from my memory that we already discussed this Red Star only a couple of months ago. Sorry having placed again the same questions, folks! Fake Orders of the Red Star - Auke - 01-23-2014 I think the last four digits were buffed out and replaced, but the first two seem to be original (as is the rest of the star). Aside from the last four digits, it looks exactly like an early 100K Red Star should look like. Fake Orders of the Red Star - rocketscientist - 01-23-2014 Nice to read from you Auke. Yourself and marsino are right in being suspicious concerning this serial number, but I can tell you it was not doctored, but "restored". The family of the veteran was afraid to get in trouble if caught selling the order, therefore they tried to scratch the serial number away. Apparently this operation is not so easy, so they gave up but nevertheless the serial was messed up. One of the next owners had to polish the area and to reinforce the previous engraving to give back to the star an acceptable appearance. In the photo, the way the serial number looked like after the attempt to erase it. ciao sergio Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-27-2014 Hello, do you have proofs to certify this story? I knew sellers inventing several fairytales of this kind at every new customer... ;) Fake Orders of the Red Star - rocketscientist - 01-27-2014 Only a couple of pictures with the scratched serial, one of which I have posted. cheers sergio Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-27-2014 A given word by a seller is always a thin proof :D Fake Orders of the Red Star - CtahhR - 01-27-2014 Depends on the seller.... Some will always lie, some never will and then everything in between. Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-27-2014 Beyond philosophy and promesses, all that is visible is a doctored serial number. |
