Fake Orders of the Red Star - CtahhR - 01-27-2014 Personally I would still avoid it, unless it was offered by one of the two exceptional dealers I know (which it isn't). Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-28-2014 Without any further information, I agree. Fake Orders of the Red Star - rocketscientist - 01-28-2014 Thank you. I think I have got all types of opinion on this serial, now. The seller open a discussion on a russian forum (where two previous owners of this star replied by publishing the photos with the scratches dated 2008 and 2011 respectively) and in general the comments were positive. I have to say that there is a geo-distribution of consensus. Collectors from Western Countries say NOGO, while those from Eastern Countries say GOOD. Now I know what direction I have to head to when I will wish to sell this Red Star... :D Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-28-2014 Well, there cannot be sure at 100%, but you know on what rely your proofs ;) Fake Orders of the Red Star - CtahhR - 01-28-2014 No matter what evidence comes forward the end result will always be the same - the serial number has been tampered with, even if the piece now has the original serial number. Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-28-2014 It is a lesser evil (?) if reasonnable proofs can be gathered, avoiding a sellers fairytale, and it is really interesting to see contrasted points of view between here and the eastern colleagues. Fake Orders of the Red Star - Auke - 01-28-2014 I agree with CtahhR here - the serial number may well have been 104744 originally, but the fact remains that this piece is tampered with. Moreover, on another forum you wrote that the order was rather pricy, so for me personally the choice would be simple - avoid it and buy a nicer specimen. Fake Orders of the Red Star - CtahhR - 01-28-2014 With the "tampering" (even though it does not alter the serial) I would certainly not even pay 50% the market value of a similar untampered item. This sort of number polishing will always detract from the piece, its desirability and ability for resale. Fake Orders of the Red Star - charlet - 01-28-2014 If genuine links can be establish with the family of the veteran (I suppose these are the projects of Rocketscientist), the alteration will be clearly counterbalanced by the award's history. Would you show us some russian links, textual or visual evidences plaese, for the sake of curiosity? :D Fake Orders of the Red Star - rocketscientist - 01-28-2014 Pricy, yes. I have no idea what would be the price for a serial in such low range. The final price was the outcome of an auction with about a dozen participants. It must be noted that the only two bidders with more than 1k transactions offered 1$ and 60$ respectively, the final bid was more than 200$. :o charlet Wrote:If genuine links can be establish with the family of the veteran (I suppose these are the projects of Rocketscientist), the alteration will be clearly counterbalanced by the award's history.
