Like Paul said, the badge is post-Soviet, especially if that is the original screw nut. But then, Eric's first picture above confirms that.

And Eric, don't you find the 60-year cross a little disturbing since it seems to pucture the world going up in a huge explosion?;) I suppose you could argue that the "world" of the people impacted by the Chernobyl disaster was destroyed - metaphorically and physically.

I see this picture as a Warning, what can happen, if ....
BTW, here are few more interesting (look nice) awards of High Risk Troops dedicated to Nuclear Testing and Explosions. On all of them dates of the first test and Chernobyl accident.

The makers used the thick coating of what I'm talking about ("resinous material" maybe is a better term?). I hope you can see it in the pictures - it's one time when I wanted the glare of the flash.;)

Eric, you have incorrectly explained this badge. The badge is devoted 50 years well-known maneuvers of the Soviet army under command of marshal Zhukov with application of the nuclear weapon

Very nice-looking badge - thank you. Do you have any larger photos (and maybe one of the reverse)? It is difficult to read the text. I'm trying to eyeball anything from the FSB since all of the new authentic badges are very difficult to even get a glimpse of.
