The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. Lt. Pierre Lorijon This Frenchman, Fighter Pilot, was a post-graduate student. In April, 1944 he joined the "Normandie-Niemen" Squadron. On October, 17, 1944 he rammed a FW-190. In total he brought down personally 5 and assisted with the downing of 3 planes of the enemy. Can anyone say anything about this "Normandie-Niemen" Pilot? He is listed on a site with HSU awardees.( Albert & Andre) Was he also a HSU? Pierre Lorillon ? Or is there a problem with the translation of the name? Eddie. The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Lapa - 03-05-2004 Eddie, There were only 4 HSU awarded to Normandie-Niemen pilots: de la Poype Andre Marcel Albert Later on, a fifth French became HSU: J-L Chretien, the spationaut (that's the French version of a cosmonaut (USSR/Russia) or an astronaut (US)) Marc The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Taz - 03-05-2004 Lapa Wrote:Eddie, Hi Marc, Yes that's exactly what I thought and then I found this guy on a Russian site with the other HSU's. The site probably shows all pilots commended for bravery but not nessesary HSU awardees. Eddie. The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Al-muell - 03-05-2004 He was born in Russia, but unless I am mistaken he died as german, not soviet citizen. Otherwise he wold not be of much use as a spy... Correct? The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Kim - 03-05-2004 Sorge was born outside Baku, Azerbajan. German father and Russian mother. In 1925 he goes to the Soviet union, becomes a member of the party and a citizen. When he returns to Germany he forgets to report that he now is a citizen of the SSSR. Oops... So I guess Sorge felt like a soviet citizen. /Kim The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Al-muell - 03-05-2004 Kim Wrote:Sorge was born outside Baku, Azerbajan. But he was German citizen at the same time, right? Doubble citizenship does not count, aye? :) That's strange - they considered him valuable because of his knowledge of USSR and did not manage to find out that he was a member of communist party????? does not sound good to me.... Not sure about his double citizenship. after reading a few articles about him none of them state for certain what nationality he really was. But in the 1st WW he was severely wounded in March 1916 when shrapnel broke both his legs, giving him a lifelong disability. He was promoted to Corporal, received an Iron Cross for Bravery and an honorable discharge from the German army. He first adopted the Communist ideology during his convalescence when he read Marx. In 1920 he graduated with a Ph.D. in political science and joined the KPD, the German communist party. His political views, however, got him fired from both a teaching job and coal mining work. He then fled to Moscow where he became a junior agent for Comintern. Eddie. The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Christophe - 03-06-2004 Eddie, May I suggest to use this pic. for Roland de la Poype ? His HSU Gold Star is visible as well as his other medals. Cheers. Ch. De la poype is apparently somehow connected with the place, and there is a small museum part where his awards are (supposedly) on display. If anyone is or goes in the Nice area, a check would be great. Marc The 44 Non-Soviet Heroes Of The Soviet Union. - Christophe - 03-07-2004 Lapa Wrote:Hi All, Marc, Excellent clue !! In fact Roland de la Poype has founded the Antibes Marineland in 1970. He is also supposed having "designed" the Citroën Mehari concept, and other daylife objects... Ch. |
