Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - Alfred - 09-15-2006 Hello Marc, I don´t know exactly. I will check it. At the moment the order is not mine. The enamel is not so hard as hot enamel, but it is very hard. So I think it is cold enamel. regards Andreas Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - Lapa - 09-15-2006 Andreas, If it is cold enamel (check to try to scratch it with a pin), place the medallion in a container of acetone and seal it for a few days until it dissolves. Marc Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - Alfred - 09-15-2006 Thanks for tip. I will try it.
Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - jefflgarrison - 10-21-2006 Hey, found an ORS today at the local flea market that had some enamel missing from the lower left arm. It is number #50,520 and am wondering if the enamel can be replaced? Has anyone seen an "inexpensive" repair that looks realistic? I have seen several that were either painted, coated with fingernail polish or bad enamel jobs. Would love to see a before and after photo of someone's repair job. PM me names of who might do such work. Not very helpful here, but in my opinion, I would prefer no repair at all. I prefer totally original items, even if it means that they are to have some damages. Why not leaving it as is? The easiest would be to used some red-colored, transparent epoxy, which is also called "cold enamel". With a bit of care, you should be able to restore your star. Can you post a pix please? Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - Lapa - 10-22-2006 Eric, I also like orders that show that they had a "real life". I just picked up a nice early Red Star with all the enamel gone except on one arm, the other 4 being nicely toned ![]() Marc Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - Riley1965 - 10-22-2006 I would never repair the enamel!!:dissapoint I have a couple of awards that are missing enamel. I think that it takes away from the character of the medal, not to mention the possibility of making a "fatal"error. Leave it be...it is as it is. Best, Mike Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents. - jefflgarrison - 10-22-2006 Ok so it doesn't sound as damaged as Lapa's star but still a shame it has lost some. Also, what determined the ring style? Some stars I have include a nice heavy nickle ring. While others have a light "el cheapo" ring. Prefer the nice heavy ones but cannot find people to trade them with. |
