Exporting is subject to obtaining permission from customs, which could be problematic if the transaction is outside of the law code. He is an adult, I am sure he can live with it; he does not like the rules, complains about them, tries to be cute and dance around them..... then he should go. I stick to my point of view. And Soviet, I never used the language that you allude to; please try to keep the forum clean, whatever point you are trying to make. DougD Excellent Group to top Soviet General - new world - 10-15-2005 I just noticed that both of these expensive groups (one for $200,000+, other for $300,000) are not listed on dealer's web site anymore. Were they sold or just simply returned to the owner? William Excellent Group to top Soviet General - medalklector - 10-15-2005 I wish I could have said that I had purchased them......
Excellent Group to top Soviet General - yolkin - 10-21-2005 Consignment period ended... Watch for these to a) pop up at another dealer's site or b) pop back up in 6 months at the same dealer's site. Although it is conceivable  that they were sold. Excellent Group to top Soviet General - dannybou - 10-21-2005 I am wondering as someone else pointed out a few posts ahead of mine, but would the Russian Government not buy such a group to put it in a museum? The reason I am asking is that a while back, a Victoria Cross group belonging to a Canadian soldier was to be auctionned off. The government stepped in and bought it to keep the group in Canada and in our War museum. Just curious I guess.... To most in modern Russia Communist heroes are not worth remembering... Hi Danny I amreasonably certain it was not the Government of Canada that "bought" that VC. If I recall that correctly it was a fundraising effort by that soldier's old regiment and a rather large donation of funds from a private citizen in the Toronto business comunity that allowed the purchase of that VC. The Canadian War Museum if we count this most recent addition, now has 19 VC's in their inventory. See this link for a list http://www.victoriacross.net/subpublic.asp?public=6 And I might add I am not certain but I think the VC of "Smokey" Smith who died this past summer will also be residing there and that would make 20. He was the last living Canadian holder of the Victoria Cross. I guess there are big chances the entire Europe would have been under nazi control by now... Just my two kopeks... Again, not an effort from the government, but it was done thanks to some private... I guess these days most governments are spending all their money on oil... (just kidding )Dolf |
