Looks like a civilian award flag, maybe from a collective farm. I'd like to see more "captured" shots. dd Here is another captured flag; I have not seen another like this, harkens to the designs of the 1920's. DD A civilian flag, but a nice capture shot. DougD Captured Soviet Banners - jefflgarrison - 01-21-2008 Living in the land of the only country to have defeated the Soviet's in a land war, I was doing some research on the subject and came across the photo below. I am wondering if anyone knows what happened to these captured flags from the "Miracle on the Vistula". Captured Soviet Banners - Al-muell - 01-21-2008 I can only guess. Most likely they were taken to the army museum in Warsaw. Even more likely, they were lost during the WW2 - either given back to Soviets by Nazis or lost during city's destruction after the upprising. Also could be returned to the SU after the war. If not, I would look for them either in Warsaw or in London. I am not sure, but i think there was something about this banners in Norman Davies's work. Captured Soviet Banners - Lapa - 01-21-2008 Guys, There is a Polish book, published in the 1960's or 70's, that covers this topic, actually on a somewhat broader basis as it covers also the 1920's intervention. In it, there are old B&W photos of the banners captured, as well as color drawing reconstruction of them. It seems that the Red Army was ordered to recover these as they took Warsaw; they did so, and the banners have disappeared from public light ever since. It is supposed that they were returned to Moscow, and could be held at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces. Marc Captured Soviet Banners - Al-muell - 01-23-2008 Was that book published in Poland? It seems very unlikely if it's from 60's and would still be strange in 70's. Unless it was published in London or Paris. Captured Soviet Banners - jefflgarrison - 01-23-2008 Lapa Wrote:the 1920's intervention You mean Polands successful defense of their state. Semantics. Well, it wasn't the first time Stalin used the Poles to cover up his ineptness and hatred for this wonderful land. Katyn would be another one.
