looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - vvadim - 09-17-2010 kingsnorth Wrote:I've recently bought a model Russian 1891 Dragoons sabre and was wondering if anyone can supply pictures of them and also tell me how long the version was manufactured. The version I have has a brass handle but the patina has been ruined by someone cleaning and polishing it.What markings should I be looking for. Since you bought it, perhaps you should supply pictures of what you got. Dragoons' version was approved on July 6 1881 and was manufactured from 1882 through 1922. looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - kingsnorth - 09-21-2010 I'll try to get some photos sorted out this weekend otherwise it will be in 2 weeks when I get back from holiday.Sabre came from a reputable auction house but there is so little wear on the grip I am having doubts about its authenticity. looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Erick - 10-17-2010 vvadim_ Wrote:May be it will come as big surprise to you, but Imperial eagle never was on any part of any Cossacks’ shaskas and after outbreak of the war “soviet imperial eagle”:) was also removed from all shashkas. Good info, just a bit of a mystery about the imperial eagle. Why is it on there overstamped with the CCCP markings and star if this type was produced in the thirties? To me it looks like it was simply overstamped and continued in use after the communist revolution, why else keep the eagle on there for 15 years ore more after the revolution. Using up old stock seems logical, the Germans restamped loads of different captured weapons with German markings and birdpictures. So can anyone date this sabre and explain the Imperial double headed eagle markings under the CCCP stamp? looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - vvadim - 11-09-2010 Erick Wrote:Good info, just a bit of a mystery about the imperial eagle. Imaginations playing tricks on you. There is no Imperial double headed eagle markings under the CCCP stamp looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Retired1811 - 12-01-2010 This is a sword, scabbard and defensive shield I purchased over in Tbilisi, Georgia. The blade is Soligen and has the cypher of Nicholas II engraved on one side and the Imperial Russian eagle on the other. The handle is very ornate and made in silver. It's my understanding that when the revolution started, the "Khevsoors" sided with Nicholas II. This is an ethnic group that lived in the Caucasus mountains. I was told this sword belonged to one of their "officers". looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Retired1811 - 12-01-2010 More looking for a soviet/cossack sabre - Retired1811 - 12-01-2010 one more |
