Patriotic War. - CtahhR - 04-01-2013 Indeed! Easy to pick up and extremely difficult to put down. Now with the added insight of "the site" for those with documents. Patriotic War. - Christophe - 04-01-2013 Hi CtarrH, I must apologize for not speaking English so good. (don't forget I'm French...) What do you mean ? ;) Cheers. Ch. Patriotic War. - CtahhR - 04-01-2013 I was suggesting that OPW '85s are very inexpensive to acquire but very difficult to stop handling or hoarding. With podvignaroda now covering a vast percentage of the '85s we can now have a greater understanding of those with documents (such as the recipient's year of birth, place of birth and other awards if they got any during the GPW). Not just the nice piece of silver most of them were see as not too long ago. Patriotic War. - CtahhR - 05-18-2013 Here is a pretty normal 2nd Class #3211129. I found it yesterday whilst archiving things away. What makes it usual is 2nd Class #3211128 is already in the collection as part of http://soviet-awards.com/forum/soviet-military-awards/researchers-corner/researched-award-groups/87490-sergeant-jakov-iosefovich-kramarenko-wounded-mortar-commander.html#post214554. I have no idea where #3211129 came from, nor do I have any record of it entering the collection (which is very unusual - I usually keep very up to date and complete catalogue). Unfortunately undocumented. Chances of two consecutive awards randomly finding their way back together is around 1 in 3,400,000. Patriotic War. - CrazyCatman - 06-18-2013 I fell over this on the Evil - at first it looked interesting.... but then I saw the serial number... am I the only one skeptic? The first 2 looks different (larger, fresher and different style) than the other numbers - especialy where there is another 2 there being different. What do you say? No doc. 1985-version. Fake? Original but altered? Worth it? (I aready have two with docs - one from my largest name set). (by the way... Is it just me who thinks that 50kb gives some very small images?) Patriotic War. - CtahhR - 06-19-2013 If you would like to post larger images you have a choice of 2. Post 140 reasonable posts or subscribe for $20. If you want something for nothing you can not complain. Patriotic War. - desantnik - 06-19-2013 Difficult to tell whether the mint engraver hadn't had a cup of coffee or someone added the initial "2." These numbers were cut with a rotating tool and required less skill than an engraver. Also, both #'s, the 2M and the 9XXK range are within the rotating tool range. Cool thanks, that explains why - didn't know that rule. Thanks. And sorry :) desantnik Wrote:Difficult to tell whether the mint engraver hadn't had a cup of coffee or someone added the initial "2."So the medal it self seems to be authentic - but there is a 50/50 chance that the number is either altered or just simply written after maybe ajusting the tool? Thanks for the answer. Patriotic War. - CtahhR - 06-19-2013 We're all new to the forum at some point. It is very easy to get settled in. The Order is perfectly legitimate and original. Hand numbering causes considerably greater variation than stamping. With over 6 Million OPW '85s there is a great variety throughout the production runs. If you take a look here - http://soviet-awards.com/forum/soviet-military-awards/orders/91-patriotic-war.html you will find a nice selection of real Orders with many different numbering styles.
