Hello Comrades,

I was looking at this documented Red Banner & Red Star set where first two awards - Lenin and Nevsky - are missing.

The handwriting looks odd. It seems to me that Banner and Star don't belong here and were written in later to misrepresent this set as documented group.

What do you think?

New World,

You are absolutely right, the last two entries were added later, and I am also not so sure about the Nevsky.

Alexei

Right, Nevsky too.

It's not that relevant since Nevsky is missing too.

Overall, I find it very suspisious when the first award is missing from the group.

I find it quite odd that the person was awarded a Lenin before he was awarded a Red Banner and a Red Star. Isn't that unusual?

It is when you see groups like this you understand the value of research.

best regards,

New world,

It is hard to see the number of the order of Lenin in your post, I believe it is 144980. If so, it was awarded in 1951, and the Nevski is from 1944, Red banner 1945, and red star around 1953.

So, it is OBVIOUS that the order book was issued ONLY to an order of Lenin. I see that the date of the order book is 1957, but the S/N of the order of Lenin - acording to Muzalevsky/Shishkov - is 1951.

Tal

To my eyes it looks like the order book is dated 1951 - not 1957. The 1's in the serial number and in the date looks very a like.

But then - my eyes is not what they used to be!

:)

Let me put some glasses - - ok, it's 1951, which proved the point - only the Lenin entry is genuine.

"This is a USSR badge medal made in 1984 to celebrate the 60-th Anniversary of the Soviet Union." Yep. They were very proud of the 1914 communist revolution.

Good thing the current bid is 1 cent.

Stagger,

I had to remove the link, because we do not post links to current eBay auctions.

This medal is certainly a commemorative pin, but other then that I do not see a problem with the listing. Pin collectors are perfectly willing to pay $1-2 for them.

Alexei

Another example of misrepresentation currently on eBay:

Description: "RUSSIA MILITARY MEDAL,GOLD 24K,WORLD WAR II,LOW NUMBER OF ISSUE"

This is 2nd class GPW order, made of silver - not of gold!
