All Other Fake Soviet Medals - Alfred - 07-13-2004 Hi guys, a veteran medal of labour on E... . Made out of aluminium. Looks similar to the Medal for a veteran of Labour. Look at the end of the grip of the hammer. What do you think about it? regards Andreas All Other Fake Soviet Medals - ibaya - 07-13-2004 Hmmm ... reuse of the Order of the Red Banner ribbon, paint enamel, with some workmanship quality problems -- have the folks who created the Umalatova(sp?) medals had a budget crunch? I'd guess that it's either a tourist-y piece of tchotchke (it's now illegal to take medals out of the country, but it probably isn't illegal to take out obvious, patently fake medals), or perhaps another example of an "alternative medal". All Other Fake Soviet Medals - Nota Bene - 07-14-2004 Andreas, I know this badge. The small pin attached to the suspension is actually the original suspension for this medallion. :) Alexei All Other Fake Soviet Medals - dannybou - 08-07-2004 Hello to all I am quite new to collecting awards and medals and would seek some assistance. In this case I bought 6 Soviet medals and would appreciate if you could advise me if the medals I bought are genuine. I will post only one as if it is genuine, then the rest will be as they are made in the same way. I have checked it with the website images and it is the Type 2, but I would like to post it, if I may, just to double check with the experts in the field. this will give me a sense of direction in the future. Thanks alot. All Other Fake Soviet Medals - ibaya - 08-07-2004 That's a genuine Veteran of Labor medal. It's such a common, readily-available medal that it would not make any economic sense to fake it. It would explain the $2 price tag then. :) All Other Fake Soviet Medals - Tal Inbar - 08-08-2004 I want to commend you on this post - many think it is not appropriate to post "common" and cheap medals on the forum. One more thing - as a new collector, you started with cheap medals. This is also becoming uncommon - since we saw a lot of new collectors post here with pride their collections....of fake Lenin, Suvorov etc. Tal All Other Fake Soviet Medals - dannybou - 08-08-2004 Tal Inbar Wrote:I want to commend you on this post - many think it is not appropriate to post "common" and cheap medals on the forum. Thanks. I want to start with the common medals first in order to give me an idea and feel for the hobby that way if I do get taken in, at least it won't be for hundreds of dollars but a few. All Other Fake Soviet Medals - Nota Bene - 08-08-2004 Dannybou, Don't hesitate to post your questions, that's what the Forum is here for. Happy hunting! Alexei dannybou Wrote:Hello to all All Other Fake Soviet Medals - rocketscientist - 10-04-2008 I searched the forum looking for a thread already open on this medal, but I was unsuccessful. If there is one, I ask the administrators to move this post where appropriate. I have recently got a bunch of soviet medals, mostly cheap service or anniversary medals which obviously I have 3x overpaid, and one of the most interesting among them is this Medal for Valiant Labor during WW2. I read in the forum that there is no fakes reported for this medal, but nevertheless some non-official strikes are circulating. Frankly, having no idea of what Umalatova is, I prefer to post the medal and get the opinion of the forum. Thank you sergio |
