Dog tag? - EricFG - 06-07-2008 Do you think this is a Soviet dog tag or identity disc? Supposedly during the GPW the Soviets used tiny plastic tubes that contained the soldier's information written on a paper slip. So what is this? Supposedly "Litshnyi Znak 921 685 Str. Polk" is stamped on it with the soldier's number as "921". Dog tag? - Lapa - 06-07-2008 Eric, Never heard of these before. Modern day entrepreneurship? Marc Dog tag? - desantnik - 06-07-2008 I agree. This is totally plausible, but more than likely the results of an active imagination looking to make a buck. I like how the unit designation survived too...;) Dog tag? - EricFG - 06-07-2008 Crap. Figured it was too good to be true at 99 cents. Dog tag? - willie777 - 06-07-2008 I think Soviet Cossack units used dog tags. I think I read it on WAF, but don't remember which thread. Dog tag? - Nota Bene - 06-07-2008 Guys, It's not only genuine, but also quite rare. This is not a god tag per se, but rather a tag that was given to soldiers, leaving the territory of their military unit for up to 12 hours. Essentially, for shorter periods of time it was used in stead of a Personal ID Booklet. Alexei Dog tag? - Nota Bene - 06-07-2008 Found this one, M1937. Alexei Dog tag? - DougD - 06-07-2008 Thanks for clearing this up Alexei! DougD Dog tag? - EricFG - 06-07-2008 Interesting. So these were given out temporarily then? Someone issued these to a soldier who was going away on business and then when he returned he turned in the tag to HQ? Cool Alexei, thanks yet again. :thumbsup Dog tag? - Nota Bene - 06-07-2008 EricFG Wrote:Interesting. So these were given out temporarily then?
