For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - medals73 - 06-14-2012 Junior Sergeant Nikolai Vasilyevich Bazhanyuk, 86th Surface-to-Air Missile Brigade of the Air Defense Forces Quote:Record card Quote:Award sheet See also the Red Banner to Sr. Lt. For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - PaulR - 06-15-2012 Wow Ed! Another great one Ed. This is the first "general service" award citation I have seen... Basically, he is a good guy and did a good job over a certain amount of time. For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - Al-muell - 06-15-2012 What I find unusual here is the fact that the attachment is an old-style brass one. Is it a replacement? Because to me it does not look correct for the era. For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - RedMaestro2 - 06-15-2012 Al-muell Wrote:What I find unusual here is the fact that the attachment is an old-style brass one. Is it a replacement? Because to me it does not look correct for the era. I'm certainly not an expert on suspensions, but I can guarantee that brass suspensions were handed out this late. For instance, both of my 1969 CMM's to Bulgarians and my 1971 CMM to a Mongolian are on a brass suspension. For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - medals73 - 06-15-2012 I think it could be very easy to become more fixated on suspensions than anyone at the time ever was. Suspensions are just that, suspensions. I suspect they were seen as functional items, not as objects of manic obsession. However, there's hardly a "manic obsession" here. "Al-Muell" raises a valid question: is this medal actually Banzhanyuk's, or an orphan piece attached to a document? Since it's unnumbered, we'll never know. I'm sure there are cases when a suspension can be used to distinguished a "filler" or replacement piece from the original with some certainty. Whether you consider the distinction between "filler" and "original" important in these cases is another issue. Alex For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - medals73 - 06-15-2012 I tend not to feel at all comfortable with the idea of a "filler". Not quite faking, but, for me, close enough. That is just my view, though, and others have different thresholds. There is "good" behavior, there is "evil" behavior, and a really really broad "gray" area in between, and "fillers" fall there, I guess. Sadly, with most Soviet items, there is no easy way to tell. All I know is that the ragged medal and the ragged book came together from a reliable source, before the research was done. I'm not even sure DNA testing would answer the question. As far as I am concerned, I have no problem with this, but a "?" will always hang. A "?" not a "!!!!!!!!!!". I remember reading your comments to this effect elsewhere, and they influenced me in deciding not to "fill-in" the holes in groups in my collection. (Again, I don't think there are any "!"'s here.) For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - medals73 - 06-15-2012 If one wants certanties and abolutes, I'm not sure this is the right "hobby". For Combat Merits,U/N 1971,Deputy Leader,86th Surface-To-Air Missile Brigade,Egypt - CtahhR - 06-15-2012 There is an absolute. We will ALL stop collecting one day. |
