Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment

At 3:00am on 10.6.43 in a kolkhoznik’s (hut?) near the village of Staraya Sloboda (Gzhats Region, Smolensk Oblast) Comrade Sorokosabel and a group of soldiers forced two German paratroopers to surrender who had just landed with their parachutes. While taking them prisoner, the two attempted armed resistance. Comrade Sorokosabel and Guards Senior Lieutenant Loktionov (?) rushed into the (hut?), disarmed the paratroopers, and led them to the regimental area.

Comrade Sorokasabel is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.

Signed Commander, 258 Guards Rifle Regiment, Guards Major Sor(?)sov on 11th July, 1943

I think these paratroops ran into the Collective Farm's woods (as in forest but not as large).

Paratroopers would land by forestry and then hide in it... rather than landing in it (like the Allies accidentally did in Normandy).

This is the classic scene in all the war time propaganda films... The enemy floats down and someone is ready and waiting to win the day. Be it the farmer's wife with an axe or the massed power of the Home Guard (or local equivalent).

Went the day well?

Red Star,0176760,Submachinegun Company Commander,258th Guards Rifle Regiment - Auke - 09-26-2013

They weren't paratroopers, but diversanty (diversionists / saboteurs)...

Red Star,0176760,Submachinegun Company Commander,258th Guards Rifle Regiment - CtahhR - 09-26-2013

A bit more active than "Gummipuppen!".

I wonder what the mission was and if it was planned to be a one way trip....

As was explained to me, a "Blocking Detachment" was, "a unit in the early days of the war that set up behind the main friendly unit to stop deserters and panic-stricken soldiers fleeing to the rear. Their purpose was to be more scary than the enemy and thus 'encourage' their fellows to remain and fight..."

Again, my thanks to Auke and desantnik for their invaluable assistance.
