Foreign Awards Section?
Art and fellow collectors,
I have and idea for further development of our forum. So far we have been focusing on the Soviet awards only, but there are others that are directly related to our topic - awards of other Communist countries. For example, not only many Mongolian awards were given to the Soviet soldiers (Zhukov had Military Red Banner order) - but some of these awrads were actually made in Soviet Union as well. Same goes for awards from Yugoslavia and North Korea - many of their awards were manufactures in Russia and have Mondvor marks. In addition, those awards are beautiful by design and in any cases are more affordable than the Soviet ones. May be we should introduce a section on foreign awards that were comonly awarded to the Soviets? What do you all think? Best regards, William |

Personally I think it is a great idea but I don't know how space is on Art's site.

Hi
Please use the "search" option on the forum! There is a thread on this subject, at: http://soviet-awards.addr.com/forum/...ighlight=merit I can create a nw thread at the researcher corner and move the old one ther. Also, in the new one, we can talk about Mongolian, Chineese etc.

Tal,
The post you refrred to deals with Foreign Awards to Soviets and Soviet awards to Foreigners. I think William is talking about an new area to discuss other east bloc awards for their own sake. Shawn |

Let me chime in with support for this idea. Some may argue it is too far afield and spreads us too thin, but I think the same could be argued for caps and uniforms, both of which get space here. At least there is an obvious and natural overlap between Soviet and other Socialist Bloc awards.

I notice that Mongolian medals have metal and enamel "ribbons". Are they real medals or are they badges? Is there a cloth ribbon for wear with service uniform??

Re: Foreign Awards Section?
I think together we have cracked it.
There are so many interesting, intriguing and simply mind blowing awards now featured in the vastly expanded "not Soviet Union" sections that it really beggars belief. Unfortunately no nation's awards are presented in full but we still have lots of time to work on that (I do have every single PR Bulgarian State Medal so should really fill in those blanks). I do try to obtain items that have not yet been covered and present them, sometimes get distracted though.... The DPRK collecting only came about to present here as there was simply no information on them out there - that turned into a chore but I'll have to trawl through the pile for as yet unposted types and variations - there are dozens of variations I know but it's a bit of a saga. I know there are some nations that are rather neglected currently, hopefully that will change. I surprised myself with the http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...h-ossetia.html. I have a few mass purchasing projects on the table so hopefully they'll pan out and everyone can enjoy the new information presented. Also each researched award is unique so I'll also continue researching awards and posting away (even if they are just for working in the Albanian State Archives). There are also over 500 Bulgarian groups I'll have to post when I have a spare year (and there is something of interest for absolutely everyone in that lot). Always so much to do and with more awards being created and awarded all the time it's not a task that will ever be completed - specially with the 70th anniversary of victory this year - there are already oceans of "organisational" 70s.
